Excerpt: "Determining the test accuracy of all questionnaires for alcohol use disorders presents some methodologic problems. The questions in the CAGE, MAST, and AUDIT questionnaires are embodied within the commonly used reference standards, DSM-III-R and ICD-10, which may result in inflated estimates of test accuracy. The advantage of the CAGE and AUDIT questionnaires over the much longer questionnaires is their brevity, which would allow them to be used as a screening or case-finding tool by busy clinicians. ..."
